Welcome Back to East
Elementary Library
Students will be visiting the library once a week for library check out. Your student will receive a note the first visit notifying you of their check out day. This will be the same each week of school. The East Library has a very good selection of fiction and nonfiction books. We also have a small collection of Spanish titles and books on tape.
Kindergarten students will check out two (2) books each week. They may not have more than four (4) books home at a time. First through third grade students will check out four (4) books per week. Overdues will be sent out every two weeks. Books that are checked out are the student’s responsibility. Students are responsible for paying for any books that are lost or damaged by the students.
Part of the library’s goal is to get books into students’ hands. Students might check out books that are above their reading level. Please allow them to scan the book, look at the pictures, enjoy the book. Don’t feel like you have to read every page of every book to your student.
Third grade students will also be participating in Accelerated Reading (AR). Two of their weekly four books may be AR books. Students take tests on their own time over their AR books.
Reading is a critical part of any child’s education. Please take time to read with your student and allow time for your student to read with you or other family members. Some students enjoy reading to a pet.
East Elementary conducts two Scholastic Bookfairs each year. These are held in conjunction with parent/teacher conferences. Profits from the fairs are used to provide books for the library and instructional materials for East Elementary. We appreciate your support of the bookfair.
Please feel free to visit our library, browse our collection, and share any concerns you have concerning our library.
