One of the most important writing-across-the-curriculum projects for Minden High School students is the World Geography/English booklet. Freshmen research the cultural and physical geography of a particular country and report their findings using paragraph strategies learned in English courses. Students consider such topics as famous landmarks, climate, lifestyle, politics, tourist attractions, language, agriculture, industry, and religious practices. The project has two main purposes: (1) to give students an opportunity to conduct independent research in geography and (2) to improve their writing skills. For their efforts students earn credit in both World Geography and English.
