MINDEN PLACES FOURTH AT CLASS B STATE SPEECH - OID earns GOLD!

by Mr. Horner

March 26, 2008

The Minden High School Speech Team took thirteen entries to the Nebraska Class B State Speech Contest held in Kearney on March 18, 2008. Speech team participants at the meet were Brooke Choquette, Laynee Woodward, William Raun, Courtney Nelsen, Peter Raun, Audrey Jacobsen, Molly Trausch, Sara Chavez, Zachary Hawthorne, Lukas Petersen, Colby Dolan, and William Panec. While many of Minden's entries came very close to making it to finals, three of Minden's events were able to secure a spot in the finals rounds. Laynee Woodward earned a 6th place medal in serious prose. Colby Dolan secured the bronze medal in humorous prose. Finally, Colby Dolan, Audrey Jacobsen, and Sara Chavez earned the gold medal in oral interpretation of drama. Their gold medal performance is a first for Minden High School. While Minden has had a number of gold medalists in individual events over the years, the school has never earned a gold medal in a group event at the Nebraska State Speech Meet. This gold medal will earn Chavez, Dolan, and Jacobsen a spot on Minden's "Wall of Champions" located outside the gym at C.L. Jones Middle School. The team earned fourth in team points. Gothenburg took home the team championship trophy while Grenta was runner-up. Norris High School placed third. Complete results from the contest can be found at www.nsaahome.org. The MHS speech team is coached by Jeffrey Horner and Tonya Fiske.
