Cold, wet weather did not dampen the spirits of the seventh graders as they participated in a version of The Amazing Race at Minden's own Pioneer Village museum on Thursday morning, April 17th. Students were divided into nine teams; each team included a parent sponsor.
After a brief meeting to explain directions, students began the race to find answers to questions about many of the exhibits and to complete various tasks assigned by each of their core teachers. For example, Mrs. Hollinger asked students to find the name of Nebraska's state song and the song's author. Mr. Russell asked questions about old farm machinery. Mrs. Schwenka had students measure the circumference of the village green. One of Mrs. Griess's tasks had students traveling to Building 18 to answer questions about the first Corvette. Students were racing against other teams to complete twenty questions, four detours and four roadblocks. Thank yous are extended to the following parents for helping with the race: Lora Rutt, Mary Stewart, Pat Dolan, Linda Stangl, Tracy Geist, Paul Mosley, Sindi Nichol, Kristen Carlson , and Jodi Boudreau. A huge thank you to the Pioneer Village for allowing us to use their facility for our Amazing Race. Lora Rutt's team finished in first place. Members of the winning team were Rachel, Josh, Aubrey, Michelle, Trevor, and RJ. Finishing in second place was Kristen Carlson's team. Members included Denae, Rory, Sam, Nate, Alexis, and Jared. Third place finishers were Jed, Sarah, Amber, Cameron, Alex, and Chase accompanied by Sindi Nichol.
