Literacy Links Tea
Held for East Elementary Volunteers
by Mary Lieske
May 12, 2008
The East Elementary Literacy Links program has completed another successful year! With 25 volunteers coming into the classrooms on a weekly basis, it has been a huge benefit for all the elementary students.
The Literacy Links program began in Minden 10 years ago as a Strategic Planning committee project. In the years since, it has grown to be a very successful reading program for East Elementary. The volunteers sign up yearly and commit to reading and working with students as guided by the teachers.
On Tuesday May 6th, the volunteers we're invited to attend an appreciation Luau. Stories were shared and gifts were presented to thank all the volunteers for their time. Dr. Maline and Mrs. Lieske welcomed the many volunteers who were able to attend. Lori Norgaard, Kim Steen, Darla Haight, Jill Woodward, Sharon Gies, and Janet Podewitz planned and decorated for the Hawaiian Luau. Eileen Raun was recognized as the community coordinator, as well as being a weekly volunteer in the program. Lori Norgaard and Jill Woodward were recognized as the School Coordinators for Literacy Links.
Registration for volunteers will begin in August. Please call the school or Eileen Raun, if you are interested in joining this important program.
