100 years in the community: Emerson Dual Language Elementary School celebrates its centennial May 29

Minneapolis Public Schools’ Emerson Dual Language Elementary School, 1421 Spruce Place, is celebrating its 100th anniversary May 29 from 5-7 p.m.

Join us to enjoy food, games, presentations and to relive highlights from Emerson’s vibrant 100-year-long history in the community. The performance schedule includes Emerson and North High School students, Aztec dance group Kalpulli Mictlan-Tonatiuh and Peruvian dance group Mi Peru Minnesota.

Emerson became a Spanish immersion school in 1992, making it among the oldest in the state.

“As a school district and a community, we’re honored to take this moment to recognize Emerson Dual Language Elementary School’s storied history as a pioneer of Spanish language immersion,” said MPS Superintendent Dr. Lisa Sayles-Adams. “We are proud of our decades of experience in bilingual education and our record of preparing students to achieve fluency and academic success in both Spanish and English.”
