100 years of excellence: Washburn High School celebrates its centennial Aug. 1-2

Washburn High School (201 W. 49th St.) is celebrating its 100th anniversary Aug. 1–2. Scheduled events include class and decade reunions, recognition of distinguished alumni, music, history exhibits and tours.

On Friday, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey will share a “Washburn Miller Day” proclamation and at 7 p.m., MPS Superintendent Dr. Lisa Sayles-Adams will lead a rededication of the high school.

“As a school district and a community, we’re honored to take this moment to recognize Washburn’s storied history and accomplished body of alumni,” said Dr. Sayles-Adams. “We also want to rededicate ourselves to Washburn’s ideals of academic excellence and tradition of cultivating the kind of well-rounded citizens a working society requires.”

Saturday will feature "MILLWHEELS 100th Celebration" at Washburn’s MacQuarrie Athletic Stadium featuring outstanding Miller alumni musicians, current WHS ensemble bands, cheerleaders, fireworks and other celebratory surprises.
