Boisey Corvah and Zion Webster named new Student Board Representatives

The Minneapolis Board of Education has announced sophomores Boisey Corvah and Zion Webster will serve as the 2026 Student Board Representatives. Zion and Boisey were selected for their roles by fellow students on the Minneapolis Public Schools’ (MPS) CityWide Student Leadership Board after an application and interview process. Their first board meeting is Feb. 10.

2026 Student Representatives

  • Boisey Corvah, South High
  • Zion Webster, North High

Boisey Corvah is a soccer player and has been involved as a counselor-in-training for Adventures in Cardboard. He also served as the youth facilitator for an intergenerational event hosted by More Than a Single Story at the Guthrie Theater in spring of 2025.

South High Principal Ahmed Amin had this to say about Boisey: “Boisey is a dedicated student. His teachers describe him as a diligent worker who consistently contributes to discussions, asks thoughtful questions, and collaborates effectively with his peers. Beyond his schoolwork, Boisey is socially conscious and driven to improve the school experience for everyone. Boisey credits this to his mother’s influence as an activist and writer. He is a well-rounded student and an asset to the South High community.”

Zion Webster has been volunteering at local pet clinics for a year, obtained an internship at Cookie Cart, Best Buy teen tech center and Fresh Films, (presenting in their 2025 charity classic, which raised 8 million for tech centers) and other volunteering events. He is very community focused and determined to advocate for change for all MPS students; especially those voices that often go underrepresented.

North High Principal Mauri Friestleben had the following to say about Zion: “Zion Webster is the PERFECT choice for Student Representative on the MPS Board of Education! Having had the privilege of being his principal from his elementary school years to now his high school years, I have witnessed the most lovely blooming of youth. A blooming that is layered with wisdom, care, and depth. Zion has a capacity beyond his years to hold space and hold complexities in a way that gives me great hope for our collective future!"

Webster and Corvah will alternate being the primary speaker at board meetings but both will remain informed of meeting content throughout their term. Additionally, the two will meet regularly with board staff to prepare for meetings and coordinate other duties. They will also be active members on the CityWide Student Leadership Board and work in partnership with district leaders to create positive change for all of MPS students’ educational experiences.

Student representatives provide an important perspective and give voice to those at the heart of MPS’s work: students. The school board has appointed a student representative since 2015, and for the past four years there have been two student representatives.

Thank you to our student representatives for their continued service to MPS and our community.
