Celebrating AVID Day and student success

On Friday, Sept. 18, Minneapolis Public Schools will join schools nationwide in celebrating AVID Day, recognizing the impact AVID has on student growth, opportunity and success.

AVID equips students with the skills, confidence and support they need to pursue their goals in college, careers and beyond. This year, we’re celebrating the 137 AVID seniors who graduated from MPS this past spring — an achievement that reflects both student determination and the dedication of their educators.

AVID Day is also an opportunity to elevate student voice. Across MPS, students and educators are completing the phrase, “Because of AVID, I…” and reflecting on what AVID has made possible for them.

“Because of AVID, I was able to deepen my networking and career exploration skills.” — AVID Senior Marisela I.

“Because of AVID, students have felt a stronger sense of belonging and connection to their school community while developing the academic, organizational and self-advocacy skills needed to achieve their goals in high school and after high school.” — Jacque Belisle, Edison AVID Elective Teacher
