Celebrating National Native American Heritage Month
November is National Native American Heritage Month, which celebrates American Indian people, tribes, cultures and traditions that have shaped our communities. This month, MPS honors ancestors who fought for the rights of American Indian people to speak traditional languages, receive an equitable education, participate in cultural practices and more. Join us for the following events:
- Through Nov. 22: “Resilience” exhibition at the Davis Center Art Gallery (1250 W. Broadway Ave.)
- Nov. 12, 6-7:30 p.m.: community dinner and celebration event at the Davis Center in partnership with Northland Visions, the American Indian Education Department and MPS Arts. Learn more and RSVP.
- Nov. 18-22: American Indian Family Involvement and Awareness Week – check with your school to see what is planned.
- Nov. 22 from 5-8:30 p.m.: the American Indian Education Department presents a Fall Feast & Powwow including a meal, free resources, student recognition and introduction of district-wide American Indian Youth Council at North High (1500 James Ave. N.).
