Congrats, February MPS Shines winners!

Congrats, February MPS Shines winners!

Each month, staff have an opportunity to nominate their colleagues for MPS Shines. Winners are randomly chosen from the nominations and receive recognition across MPS newsletters and social media, a coffee mug and other prizes.

Help us congratulate our February MPS Shines winners:

Alex Berry

Alex Berry, art teacher, Folwell Elementary

“It is with immense pride and overwhelming gratitude that I nominate Mr. Alex Berry for the MPS Shines award. In my time working alongside educators, I have rarely encountered someone who embodies the heart, spirit, and unwavering dedication to students quite like Mr. Berry. He is not just an art teacher; He is a cornerstone of our school community who goes above and beyond, without hesitation, to ensure every child feels safe, valued, and capable of creating something beautiful.

Mr. Berry is the definition of "going above and beyond." He is consistently present, with an infectious energy that uplifts students and staff. What sets him apart is his willingness to sacrifice his own precious prep time to assist students who need extra support. He meets students as they get off the school buses in the morning, helps at recess, and offers kind word! He transforms his classroom into a place where, regardless of background or ability, every student feels a sense of belonging. He fosters a safe space where students can express emotions that words cannot always capture.

His dedication extends beyond the art room walls. He ensures a safe orderly dismissal of students, stays late for bus duty, and constantly volunteers his time for school and community events. He creates a vibrant, inclusive atmosphere that makes our diverse school population feel seen, heard, and celebrated.

I recall a time Mr. Berry created a custom photo booth complete with seating, lighting, and a camera for the 5th grade dance. That, right there, is the magic of Mr. Berry. He understands that young minds are nurtured when they feel inspired.

Mr. Berry is truly an indispensable part of our school, making a lasting impact on the hearts and minds of our students and staff. He is profoundly deserving of this recognition.”
