Congratulations, December MPS Shines winners!
Each month, staff have an opportunity to nominate their colleagues for MPS Shines. Winners are randomly chosen from the nominations and receive recognition across MPS newsletters and social media, a coffee mug and other prizes.
Help us congratulate December's MPS Shines winners:
Caroline Hooper, social studies teacher, Southwest High School
“Caroline is one of The Best! Caroline is a champion for students and an advocate for staff. She creates a culture of mutual respect and high expectations in all areas. She is a fierce advocate for AVID students." - Maria Kimmes
Allison Midura, library media specialist teacher, Green Central Elementary School
“Allison (Ali) Midura goes above and beyond as the Library Media Specialist at Green and Emerson elementary schools. She is managing the nearly impossible task of getting all classes through both libraries each week despite only being half-time at each site.
In her spare time, Ali has genre-fied Green's library, is halfway done genre-fying Emerson's library, created bilingual shelf signage and creates monthly literacy displays and cultural lessons that connect and engage her students. Her lesson on Indigenous tribes of Mexico, connecting to Duncan Tonatiuh's picture books, was a huge hit with students, many of whom had traveled to or visited the cultural sites featured in the books. Ali is a vocal advocate for her students and makes sure they have access to high-interest, diverse, bilingual book collections.
Stop by either of her libraries to watch her teach in Spanish and see the safe and inviting spaces she has created and you will be instantly inspired!" - Immanda Bellm
Holly Miller-Byzewski, health services assistant, Kenwood Elementary
“Holly is our health assistant at Kenwood. She goes above and beyond to help students in and out of the health office. She can be seen helping students regulate themselves in the office or taking a student for a walk outside because they feel they need fresh air to feel better. Holly is a huge support to the staff and students. We are so fortunate to have Holly as part of our team!" - Christy Thompson
