Dr. Lisa Sayles-Adams selected as next superintendent of Minneapolis Public Schools
The MPS Board of Education voted to approve the negotiated contract with Dr. Lisa Sayles-Adams to serve as superintendent beginning Feb. 5, 2024. Dr. Sayles-Adams was one of two finalists who participated in multiple community events and a public final interview. The board held a special public meeting on Friday, Dec. 1 where they selected Dr. Sayles-Adams as their preferred candidate which initiated the contract negotiation process.
Dr. Lisa Sayles-Adams boasts a distinguished career in educational leadership spanning over two decades. Beginning in Minneapolis Public Schools from 1996 to 2004, she held various roles including teacher and coordinator, ultimately becoming the principal at the City Alternative High School. After leaving MPS her journey continued in Clayton County Schools in Georgia, St. Paul School District and she moved into district leadership in 2019 where she served as Assistant Superintendent in ISD 622 before assuming the prestigious position of Superintendent at Eastern Carver County Schools in 2020, overseeing a district of 9,600 students.
Dr. Sayles-Adams' academic background further solidifies her commitment to excellence. In 2022, she earned her Educational Doctorate in Education Leadership from Minnesota State University, Mankato. She also holds Preschool through 12th-grade Administrative Licensure from St. Mary's University (2003), a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis (2002), and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Minnesota (1992).
