Five MPS School Board seats on the ballot in 2026

Candidates filing for School Board seats

Five Board of Education (School Board) seats will be on the ballot in 2026, for terms that run January 2027 to January 2031. These seats represent election districts 1, 3, and 5, as well as two At-Large (citywide) seats. Individuals interested in running for the MPS Board are encouraged to learn more about filing requirements through the City of Minneapolis Elections & Voter Services.

The candidate filing period is May 19 - June 2. All candidates must follow the process outlined by Elections & Voter Services.

Candidate Information Session

To support anyone interested in the elections process, Minneapolis Elections & Voter Services is hosting a Candidate Information Session on May 4 at 6 p.m. at the Minneapolis Elections Office (980 E Hennepin Ave.).

The session is open to the public and is designed for candidates, campaign treasurers, campaign teams, and community members. Topics will include an overview of the 2026 election, changes to the candidate filing process, campaign finance reporting, fair campaign practices, working with the elections office, and time for questions.
