As we celebrate Black History Month, MPS is hosting several events around the city. Look for events hosted by your school communities, and join MPS for these upcoming celebrations.

National African American Parent Involvement Day Celebrations

Celebration at MPS Online

Monday, Feb. 12
1:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Davis Center (1250 W Broadway Ave, 5th floor)

MPS is hosting a celebration of National African American Parent Involvement Day! Come celebrate with our families and students as we recognize and uplift the roles of our African American Parents/Guardians!

Enjoy food, entertainment, and MPS Online student performers! This event is hosted by MPS Online School and the Engagement Department.

Family Bowling and Dinner

National African American Parent/Family Involvement Day is a time to celebrate and honor Black families and the many ways we support one another and our children.  Please join the Office of Black Student Achievement at Bowlero in Blaine for a night of family fun!

This event is open to the first 200 people to RSVP. OBSA is providing bussing from John B. Davis Center and South High School. Buses will leave at 4:30 p.m. to head to Bowlero and will leave Bowlero at 7:15 p.m. to return.

Celebrate National African American Parent Involvement Day on Valentine's Day at Sullivan STEAM School. Breakfast will be served. Enjoy storytelling and poetry and a book giveaway. All are welcome; come celebrate and uplift our families!

Cooking with Soul

Back by popular demand! Celebrate Black History Month with African American chefs at Cooking with Soul. Hear about their personal journeys and taste wonderful food! Join us in the Davis Center near the Northgate Cafe at 2 p.m. Hosted by the Engagement Department.

Our World of Math & Science

Learn about African Americans who have contributed to American history through math & science. Presented by 4th & 5th graders from Hall STEM Elementary!

Black Power Fair

Thursday, Feb. 22

Hall STEM Academy (1601 Aldrich Ave. N)

African American families of Young Learners (0-8 years old) are invited to join us for dinner and resources at the Black Power Fair.  Enjoy activities and entertainment, golf, storytelling, prizes, diapers and immunization shots, and more.

Full Circle Podcast postponed

The Black History Month Full Circle Podcast event originally scheduled for Feb. 27 at the Davis Center has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date. We will share updated information as soon as we can.

WE WIN "Children's Crusade"

Join us in the Northgate Café area of the Davis Center for an event presented by the WE WIN Institute with a focus on literacy and advocacy.

WE WIN is a Minneapolis-based non-profit that serves youth ages 5-18, offering year-round programs that provide academic and social support that utilizes a multi-cultural and afro-centric approach to education and academic success.
