MPS School Board member resigns; vacancy to be filled by appointment
School Board Director Faheema Feerayarre, who has represented election district 3 on the Minneapolis Board of Education (School Board) since Jan. 2023, has submitted her resignation from the board, effective immediately.
In accordance with applicable state law and school board policy, and because the deadline to include the seat on the Nov. 5, 2024 ballot has passed, the School Board will make an appointment to fill the remaining term for election district 3, which runs until Jan. 4, 2027. The School Board will announce the process and timeline for this appointment on Sept. 25, 2024.
“I thank Ms. Feerayarre for her service to the Minneapolis Public Schools community as a member of the school board,” said Board Chair Collin Beachy. “We all wish her the best in her future endeavors.”
The School Board is the governing body of Minneapolis Public Schools, with nine voting members and two student representatives. The School Board is responsible for overseeing the district’s finances and policies, establishing and monitoring the strategic direction and goals, and hiring and evaluating the district's superintendent, who serves as the district's chief executive.
