MPS welcomes Jonassen as general counsel

MPS welcomes Jonassen as general counsel
Superintendent Dr. Lisa Sayles-Adams has announced Jamie Jonassen will join MPS as general counsel.
Jonassen comes to MPS from St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS), where she has served as deputy general counsel since 2022. Prior to her current role, she served as SPPS assistant general counsel from 2016 to 2022, after several years as an associate attorney in two law firms and as a clerk in state court. Jamie is admitted to the bar in Minnesota, Minnesota District Court and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
“I am honored to be joining the MPS team," said Jonassen. "I deeply value public education, believe strongly in the MPS mission and look forward to serving the MPS community.”
The general counsel provides legal advice and counsel to the school board and MPS executive leadership, and represents the school district in legal proceedings, litigation, court appearances, hearings and other disputes. The general counsel reports to the superintendent and school board.
