Roosevelt’s Carlyn Shanley selected as 2026 ProStart Educator of Excellence

Roosevelt High School’s Carlyn Shanley (middle, above) has been recognized as the 2026 ProStart Educator of Excellence by the Hospitality Minnesota Education Foundation (HMEF). HMEF creates opportunities for those interested in pursuing careers in the hospitality industry. Shanley is a family consumer science teacher and was commended “for her outstanding contributions to the next generation of culinary professionals.”

One highlight of Shanley’s work is her "Cafeteria Takeover Project,” in which students created dishes that were added to the menu for all of Minneapolis Public Schools. She also used grants to purchase accessible equipment for neurodivergent students and designed visual recipes for ESL learners.

Shanley will be honored at the 2026 Scholarship Breakfast on May 5 at The Beach Club in Minneapolis.
