Ski teams excel at State, Southwest wins girls Nordic silver
MPS student-athletes recently competed at the Minnesota State High School League Nordic and Alpine State Meets at Giants Ridge in Biwabik, MN.
Congratulations to the Southwest girls Nordic team, which brought home the silver medal, led by standout performances from Keira Dahlquist and Nora Deisz (second in the team sprint relay), Nora Prekker (seventh individual) and Keira Bell (14th individual).
Washburn ski teams had a strong showing with the Miller boys Alpine team earning fourth place overall. In Nordic, the boys team finished fourth and the girls team finished seventh. Nordic skiers James Marquardt and Wells Darst Rice placed third in the relay, and Ciara Thatcher earned ninth in girls pursuit.
South and Roosevelt TNT (Tigers and Teddies) Nordic skiers made their mark with strong individual and relay performances. After placing second in sections, the boys Nordic team took 10th overall at state. Skiers Kairov Santan and Leo Wernimont placed 12th in the relay, Ciara Westerhaus placed 13th, and Dylan West, the Minneapolis Conference Champion, placed 21st.
