Three MPS teachers are semifinalists for Minnesota Teacher of the Year

Three MPS educators are semifinalists for this year’s Minnesota Teacher of the Year, an award that celebrates the tradition of excellence in teaching:

  • Katelyn Bruce, Lake Harriet Elementary lower campus (second grade)
  • Ben Cuevas-Rengstorf, Roosevelt High School (family consumer science)
  • Travis Koupal, Justice Page Middle School (science)

An independent selection panel of community leaders narrowed the initial field of 142 candidates to 31 semifinalists. The panel will review candidate portfolios and semifinalist video submissions and select 10 finalists in March.

Tracy Byrd, Washburn High School English teacher and current “Minnesota Teacher of the Year,” will announce his successor on May 4. Learn more.
