Two MPS teachers are finalists for Minnesota Teacher of the Year
Two MPS educators are finalists for this year’s Minnesota Teacher of the Year, an award that celebrates the tradition of excellence in teaching:
- Katelyn Bruce, Lake Harriet Elementary lower campus (second grade)
- Ben Cuevas-Rengstorf, Roosevelt High School (culinary arts, family consumer science)
An independent selection panel of community leaders narrowed the initial field of 142 candidates to 31 semifinalists. The panel reviewed candidate portfolios and semifinalist video submissions and has selected 12 finalists. The selection panel meets again May 3 to conduct individual interviews and cast votes.
Tracy Byrd, Washburn High School English teacher and current “Minnesota Teacher of the Year,” will announce his successor on May 4 at a banquet at the Saint Paul RiverCentre. Learn more.
