Washburn High School English teacher Tracy Byrd and social studies teacher Jason Jirsa have been selected as Minnesota Teacher of the Year semifinalists.
They are two of 27 semifinalists selected from 159 total candidates from across the state.
The current Minnesota Teacher of the Year, Michael Houston, will announce his successor at the Minnesota Teacher of the Year banquet on May 5 at the Saint Paul RiverCentre.
