2022-2023 School Year Interim Superintendent Announcement

Minneapolis Public Schools announces Rochelle Cox as candidate for interim superintendent

The school board will vote to approve the contract during the May 10 meeting

MINNEAPOLIS—May 5, 2022– Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) Board Chair Kim Ellison announced today that the school board will vote to approve a contract with current MPS Associate Superintendent Rochelle Cox to serve as interim superintendent for the 2022-2023 school year.

Associate Superintendent Cox has been with MPS since 1997, when she joined the Early Childhood Special Education department. She has since served in several leadership positions, including recently as Executive Director of Special Education and Health Services. In her current role as Associate Superintendent, Ms. Cox supports 19 elementary schools and their principals.

Ellison said “I am grateful to Ms. Cox for serving our district in this way as we work to identify a permanent superintendent. We look forward to soon sharing more specifics about the superintendent search, which will include multiple engagement and feedback opportunities for students, staff, families, and community members.”

Current Superintendent Ed Graff announced last month his decision not to renew his existing contract, which concludes at the end of this 2021-2022 school year.
