This week, MPS Board Chair Collin Beachy and Policy Committee Chair Director Lori Norvell attended the Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS) Legislative and Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. The conference brought together leaders from the nation’s largest urban districts to engage in federal education policy discussions and collaborative governance work.

Chair Beachy and Director Norvell participated in sessions focused on federal education policy, state‑level issues affecting school districts, work related to urban student achievement, effective district governance and more. They also joined briefings from CGCS legislative staff and U.S. Department of Education officials on current and upcoming federal actions impacting public schools.

Their participation helps ensure that the priorities and experiences of Minneapolis students and families continue to be represented in national conversations on public education.

They also had the opportunity to meet journalist and event speaker, Jonathan Capehart during the event!  (photo included below).
