Update on the April 14, 2026 MPS School Board Regular Business Meeting

 

Monthly MPS School Board meetings are a good source of information about the direction of MPS. We hope you find this brief overview of key meeting items helpful.  

Presentations from the American Indian Parent Advisory Committee, the 2025 Audit Report and were provided.

Reports and Recommendations from the Superintendent

Dr. Sayles-Adams highlighted the following events, observances and acknowledgments:  

  • During the month of April, MPS joins the nation in recognizing National Autism Acceptance Month, celebrating and bringing light to the experiences and identities of individuals with autism. 
  • MPS also celebrates Volunteer Appreciation Month, with gratitude to the hundreds of volunteers including parents, retirees and community members showing up every day for MPS students.  
  • Dr. Sayles-Adams acknowledged observances highlighting wonderful MPS staff and thanked them for their service and dedication: April 3 was Minnesota School Library Media Specialist Day, and April 4 was National School Librarian Day. Last week marked National Assistant Principals Week, April 20-24 is Afterschool Professionals Appreciation Week, and Administrative Professionals Day is April 22. 
  • Congratulations to Southwest senior Dahlia Karch! Dahlia was recently named a National Merit Scholar.
  • MPS hosted the Minnesota Historical Society’s 2026 Regional History Day competition. At this competition, 119 middle and high school students from across the district, representing 75 projects, qualified for the State History Day Competition taking place this Sunday at the Minneapolis Convention Center. 
  • Big congrats to the South High School Boys Basketball Team for their incredible season. The team made it to the big stage and qualified for the Minnesota State Tournament at Williams Arena. 
  • The Davis Center Gallery is showcasing the Viva City High School Art Exhibition. As part of the district’s Viva City Fine Arts Festival, a celebration of the outstanding fine arts education at MPS, the gallery will be displaying student art work.
  • Mark your calendar for May 6 as it is Bike, Walk and Roll to School Day. The Culinary and Wellness Team will be hosting Let’s Roll MPS Northside on Wednesday, May 6 from 2 - 4:30 p.m. 
  • MPS invites you to check out all the summer offerings that are available to ensure our students are active and engaged while school is out. Visit our website at mpschools.org and search “summer” to find a list of programming to choose from.  

An update on the budget development process for next year was also presented.

  • Consent Agenda (all items under 9a)
  • Resolution Acknowledging Receipt of the Fiscal Year 2025 Financial Audit (2026-0032)
  • The board approved changes to committee assignments
  • Resolution Authorizing Participation in Litigation (2026-0026)
