Amelia Márquez

Amelia Márquez (She/They) of the Coahuiltecan Nation, known affectionately as Miss Amelia to her students at Edison CTE, is entering her third year of teaching, specializing in Work-Based Learning. Prior to this role, she taught Social Studies at the same institution.

Amelia holds a Master's of Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Montana State University Billings, providing her with a solid foundation to mentor and empower her students effectively.

Her inspiration to teach stems from a strong desire to empower students as leaders. She advocates giving students a voice in their learning journey, preparing them comprehensively for adulthood. Amelia's teaching philosophy revolves around active engagement and ensuring that every student's voice is heard. She emphasizes mentorship and guidance to foster academic, social, and emotional growth. What she enjoys most about teaching are the students themselves and the collaborative spirit among her colleagues, which continually motivates her.

Outside of the classroom, Amelia has a deep passion for theatre, arts, and literature. She recently discovered and fell in love with the beauty of Duluth, and she cherishes spending time in nature whenever possible. Also, Amelia serves on the MFT 59 teacher chapter executive board.

Amelia takes pride in her contributions to Edison's extracurricular activities, having initiated the Youth in Government and Model United Nations delegations. She also directed the production of "Lord of the Flies" with the theatre department, nurturing creativity and leadership among her students.
