Kari Slade

Healthcare Teacher

My interest in health began at a young age when I took a medical biology class at Fridley High School and witnessed my father cope with medical issues throughout the years.

I went on to attend the University of Minnesota Duluth and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Health Education K-12. Since then, I've taught at MPS for half a decade before deciding to continue my education while working and pursued a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the University of MN TC.

I am passionate aobut understanding the social determinants of health, and defining what movements & measures we can take to allow our entire community, locally & globally, to be healthy. With over 25+ years in the Minneapolis Schools, I've come to appreciate the unique abilities and personalities of every group of students that has walked into my classroom.

I call South Minneapolis my home and live with a partner of 22 years, a 13 year old son, a 19 year old daughter attending the U of M, and a chocolate lab to round out the crew. I spend my free time going on runs, traveling, cooking, meeting new people, dancing and hanging out with family & friends.
