Teen Parent Services

Being a pregnant teen can be overwhelming, but you are not alone, and there is a community of resources, services, and support just for you. Student parents have unique needs that require special attention to promote positive short- and long-term outcomes.

For over 30 years, Teen Parent Services (formerly known as the M.I.C.E./TAPP Program) has been addressing these needs for young families in Minneapolis.

Teen Parent Services’s mission is to encourage pregnant and parenting teens to reach their highest potential by stressing academic achievement, providing prenatal and parenting education, and offering high-quality child care and comprehensive supportive services as they build a strong future for themselves and their children.

Let us help connect you to services and provide child care while you complete high school. Child care funding will remain with your child, even after graduation. Knowing your child is receiving high-quality care while you continue your education or enter the workforce provides the peace of mind all families deserve.

TPS supports all pregnant and parenting students enrolled in Minneapolis Public Schools and their children with a variety of programming.

Locations serving students and children

Programing during the school year operates at two locations for child care. We have child care centers in Longfellow Alternative High School and at North High School, with the latter having a separate entrance if the teen parent is attending another MPS high school.

Longfellow Alternative High School, 3017 E. 31st St, Minneapolis

Nontraditional high school setting. Longfellow Alternative High School is specifically for teenage girls who are pregnant or are already parenting. All students and their children have the opportunity to receive an individualized education to fully prepare them for what comes next. Longfellow offers a variety of course options that meet the needs and interests of each individual student, with individualized pathways to graduation.

North High School, 1500 James Ave. N, Minneapolis

Traditional high school experience. North High School is a community school providing small class sizes and equipping students to succeed in post-secondary institutions.

South High School (Summer only), 3131 19th Ave. S, Minneapolis

Teen parent students who qualify for Credit Recovery summer classes to make up missed credits are provided with child care at South High School.

Longfellow has been very helpful in keeping my education at a level where I can graduate, and it has increased my motivation to go to college. There are so many more things they do ... I would recommend it to young mothers who haven't finished high school.
