Magnet Schools

Our unique pre-K-12 arts pathway provides students the opportunity to explore and develop their artistic interests and talents throughout their developmental years. Each school offers comprehensive arts, music, visual art, media art, dance and theater coursework that is integrated with core academic content. Student showcases are also an integral component of our arts programs. Coursework is complemented by partnerships with local and national art organizations, artists in residence programs and field trips.

Ella Baker Global Studies and Humanities School is guided by the core principles of positive identity development, culturally responsive curriculum and instruction, community service opportunities and global competency. Students are challenged to investigate events through a critical and global lens. The school’s academic and social emotional learning approach leads students through a broader understanding of self, their community and the world. The global studies and humanities magnet school model promotes service learning, intergenerational collaboration, and student-led inquiry and discovery.

At Seward Montessori Elementary School all children receive a student-centered, hands-on, social justice-oriented education emphasizing responsibility to self, others and the world. Seward uses the Montessori philosophy and approach to support individualized, self-directed learning which allows students to progress at their own pace. Levels include Children’s House: Pre-K and Kindergarten, Elementary 1 (E1): mixed classrooms of grades 1-3, and Elementary 2 (E2): mixed classrooms of grades 4-6.

We provide a robust, inclusive pre-K-12 Spanish dual language program that prioritizes bilingual linguistic proficiency, biliteracy and multicultural fluency. Our program objectives include maintaining a balanced representation of 60% Spanish language-speaking students and 40% English language-speaking students while enhancing academic performance for all, including multilingual/ emergent bilinguals, newcomers to the country and historically underserved student groups. Our middle and high school programs are included within established community school programs.

STEM/STEAM education represents an approach to teaching and learning that integrates the content and skills of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and more. Students learn topics through an interdisciplinary STEM/STEAM lens and engage in questioning, problem solving, collaboration and hands-on activities while they address authentic, real world issues. Teachers function as facilitators of learning while guiding students through the problem-solving process and plan and implement projects that lead to STEM/STEAM proficiency.
