There is often a waiting list for woodwind, brass, percussion and string instruments for students at individual schools. Due to a limited budget, we cannot accept the donation of any instruments that require repair. If you are interested in donating a band or orchestra instrument, we can only accept if:
- It has been cleaned and/or set up by a music repair shop.
- It has been identified as playable by a music repair shop.
Currently MPS is accepting new or like new (under five years of age) piano or Yamaha clavinova donations. The transportation of the piano or clavinova must also be included as part of the donation. Donations of used pianos (older than five years) are not being accepted at this time.
If you have an instrument to donate that meets the above criteria, please contact Lori Ledoux, arts extension coordinator, at lori.ledoux@mpls.k12.mn.us or 612-668-5346. After your donation has been accepted, you will receive a letter of acknowledgment that may be used for tax purposes. Please provide the following information when you contact us regarding your donation:
- Type of instrument
- Manufacturer and brand serial number
- Condition of instrument
- If the case is included
- Appraised value of the instrument (can be provided by any local repair shop)
- Your name, address and phone number
Thank you very much for helping provide a music education for a Minneapolis Public Schools student!
