Donate to MPS through Achieve Twin Cities

Achieve Twin Cities manages dedicated funds for MPS schools and departments that have been approved by the district. It receives private donations and makes approved payments and reimbursements for special projects and activities. Achieve does not take administrative fees on these donations but does pass along credit card processing and stock transfer fees.

Mini-grants

Mini-grants for MPS Educators, Classrooms and Field Trips

Achieve Twin Cities administers small grants that support MPS educator and staff professional development opportunities, classroom activities and field trip transportation. These include Links to Learning grants, Minneapolis Educator Leadership Awards and other small grants that are funded by community donations.

Scholarships

Scholarships for MPS Students and Graduates

Achieve Twin Cities also supports the district in awarding college scholarships to MPS students for postsecondary education. Some scholarships are renewable. Information on specific scholarships can be found in high school Career & College Centers and counseling offices.

Volunteering with MPS

To make sure our students are achieving, Minneapolis Public Schools needs your help. Two-thirds of our students live in poverty. Twenty-five percent of our students are learning English. Your donations of time, supplies or money can help us move our students ahead farther, faster.

Each year, approximately 8,000 individuals - including parents, city workers, business people, retirees and college students - share their time and talents by volunteering thousands of hours in our schools.

Donating Musical Instruments

Donating Musical Instruments

There is often a waiting list for woodwind, brass, percussion and string instruments for students at individual schools. Due to a limited budget, we cannot accept the donation of any instruments that require repair. If you are interested in donating a band or orchestra instrument, we can only accept if:

It has been cleaned and/or set up by a music repair shop.
It has been identified as playable by a music repair shop.

Currently MPS is accepting new or like new (under five years of age) piano or Yamaha clavinova donations. The transportation of the piano or clavinova must also be included as part of the donation. Donations of used pianos (older than five years) are not being accepted at this time.

If you have an instrument to donate that meets the above criteria, please contact Lori Ledoux, arts extension coordinator, at lori.ledoux@mpls.k12.mn.us or 612-668-5346. After your donation has been accepted, you will receive a letter of acknowledgment that may be used for tax purposes. Please provide the following information when you contact us regarding your donation:

Type of instrument
Manufacturer and brand serial number
Condition of instrument
If the case is included
Appraised value of the instrument (can be provided by any local repair shop)
Your name, address and phone number
