Local Food

Farm to School logo of a tractor

We provide students with access to fresh, local food in school meals.

We have been purchasing local, sustainably grown produce from small and mid-sized farms in our region since 2013. In recent years, MPS has expanded its local purchasing to include poultry, meats, grains, and beans.

Check out our Farm to School Toolkit, a case study of how MPS buys fresh, sustainably-grown produce from small- and medium-sized local farms.

Farm to School Internships

We are looking for one or more interns to help with our Farm to School program. The intern will gain experience in a large, culturally diverse urban school district. Since 2013, MPS has been a national leader in Farm to School procurement and programming.  Our 2024 intern(s) will help to strengthen our engagement with the community through event management/support, urban garden education, and nutrition education in MPS schools.
