MPS + St. Thomas Teacher Residency (MSTR)

Minneapolis and St. Thomas Teacher Residency program is a pathway to licensure that will prepare highly effective and diverse special education and Elementary teachers who will create increased opportunities for students in Minneapolis Public Schools

This rigorous and accelerated teacher preparation program is open to unlicensed MPS employees and employees of the community partner organizations that work with MPS students.  Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree and be interested in earning a teacher licensure in either special education or Elementary education.  Candidates that identify as BIPOC or multilingual are encouraged to apply.  Upon completing MSTR, residents will earn their Master’s degree from the University of St. Thomas and their teaching license in either Special Education - Academic and Behavioral Strategist (ABS) or K-6 Elementary Education.

The residency program is a 15 month program that will start in May 2025 and go through August 2026.
