Scope of Work

North High School Renovation and New North Career & Technical Education (CTE) Center.

The project designers are currently studying building wide improvements such as reconfiguring some classrooms, improved access and building safety systems, new exterior windows for daylighting, new finishes including ceiling and lighting, new electrical, new HVAC systems and controls, fire protection, new plumbing and domestic water pipes, upgrades to the performance space with an auditorium renovation and technology improvements along with new furniture and other fixtures and equipment.

As this project is a multi-year project part of a 5 year capital plan, additional work may include a new entrance with improvements to the entry drive, parking lots, an entry plaza and green space, improvements to the administrative offices and commons area, and kitchen and lunchroom improvements. Lastly, a new Career & Technical Education (CTE) center to be housed within North High is under study.

All items being studied are pending funding via bonding and fluctuations in the construction market. The scope will be refined as design continues.

The overall project is expected to begin construction in 2022 and will take 5-8 years to complete with a total construction budget of $56 million.

Project Updates

February 2023: The North CTE project is being completed quickly by the Contractor. The Dance Studio and Weight Room are scheduled to be completed by Spring Break. Once completed, the weight equipment, currently in the Auxiliary Gym, will be relocated to the new weight room. With the Auxiliary Gym empty, demolition of the gym will begin. A new auxiliary gym will be constructed that will also serve as a storm shelter. The new auxiliary gym construction is expected to take about 12 months to complete.

The second floor of the new CTE center is going through some finish work. Installation of the Unistrut is underway which will provide overhead power and data for the CTE rooms. Door frames are being built and when installed, flooring can be installed. The single user restrooms on the second floor are also under construction.

The first floor CTE construction is focusing on the moveable wall installation and mechanical and electrical installations. The project is on schedule to be available for instruction in Fall 2023.

The utility tunnel construction has been completed and installation of heating and cooling pipes is underway. The solar array connection is being redesigned and scheduled to be installed in March.

The Phase 2 contract has been award to Rochon and they will begin construction in April with the installation of the new sewer pipeline that will be installed under the west and south parking lot areas. The Phase 2 project will include the new grand entrance and the entry commons and dining area.
