Title IX Locker Rooms

Scope of Work

Title IX is a federal law that prohibits sex-based discrimination in any educational program or activity that receives federal funding.  The law protects both students and employees from sex-based discrimination. Title IX has specific provisions for athletic programs, covering areas like participation opportunities, athletic scholarships, and other items such as equal space for male and female locker rooms.  Title IX regulations require "comparable facilities".  Title IX requires that if separate facilities like locker rooms are provided, they must be comparable for students of one sex to those provided for the other.

MPS Stakeholders including Athletic Directors and Principals are working together to modify existing locker room facilities to create equal spaces for both males and females.
